Our Main Highpointing Page

My newest interest is Highpointing. Highpointing in general is an activity that concentrates on climbing to the highest point in any given area, whether political, such as a country or state; or natural, like a mountain range. High points can be as simple as a short walk or as demanding as a long hike in sub-zero temperatures with high winds and sheer cliffs.

I was not interested in it as a hobby until I finished climbing down Eagle Mountain, Minnesota's high point. For many years, I've wanted to visit Eagle, but didn't get around to it until 2002. Then I decided that I wanted to climb the high points in other states, as well. Through Labor Day of 2003, I had only done Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa and Illinois. By that time, the rest of my family was interested, too. So, for Christmas, 2003, we took a 10-state tour of the south and east. I have plans for most of the other 30 states, and Canada's 12 provinces and territories, for future trips. And who knows? We may become interested in places outside North America.
