Our Wilkin County, Minnesota Highpointing Page

1 unnamed area on Otter Tail County Line: 1252+ feet

Introduction

Wilkin County's high point is a liner, the ground on the Otter Tail side a little higher. It is on the eastern edge of Section 13 of Tanberg Township. I visited there on November 26, 2004, the last of 9 counties for that day, after completing Clay County.

My Approach to the Wilkin County High Point

I drove southeast on I-94 from Barnesville to the Rothsay exit. I went north on Otter Tail County Road 11 1.6 miles north of the freeway to an approach on the Otter Tail County side, even though there was an approach on the Wilkin side.

Parking

This was at the 1252' spot elevation. I shone my truck lights onto the high point area, and got out to walk.

The Summit

The high point is along the edge of the field. I walked on both sides of the electric fence until I was satisfied that all the possible high ground was covered.

The Climb Down

I returned to my truck in 4 minutes' time.

The Route Out

I got back on I-94 east to a rest area 5 miles past Fergus Falls (less than 1 mile from where U.S. Highway 59 exits south), and spent the night there. In the morning, I got up to complete Big Stone County.
