Our Watonwan County, Minnesota Highpointing Page

1 unnamed field hill: 1300+ feet

Introduction

Watonwan County's high point is on a circular hill north of a wooded area in Section 31 of Odin Township in the southwest corner of the county. I visited there on November 13, 2004 under the stars.

The Approach to Watonwan County's High Point

I had completed Murray County's high point about an hour and a half before. From Windom, I drove east on Cottonwood County Road 13, (which became Watonwan C.R. 22 at the county line), one mile east of the county line, then south on C.R. 2 for two miles to the Martin County Line, then west on C.R. 21 (all these are paved roads) for 3/4 mile to a field road that followed the edge of the grove all around its northern side.

Parking

I parked at about the middle of the north side of the grove, nearest the high point hill.

The Trail and the Summit

The field was plowed. I navigated by flash light and GPS. After I made it to the center of the hill, my flashlight bulb burned out, so I completed the hill by walking around the area. Total hiking time was about 7 minutes.

The Route Out

I made it back to Windom, then, north on U.S. Highway 71 towards Brown County's High Point.
