Our Swift County, Minnesota Highpointing Page

1 unnamed field hill: 1300+ feet

Introduction

Swift County's High Point is located in Section 10 of Hayes Township. It is in a field. I visited this hill on November 27, 2004, after completing Big Stone County.

Approaches to the Swift County High Point

Michael Schwartz approached from the east, and drove up to the summit from the north.

I came from the west on Minnesota State Highway 9 from Benson, then right (south) on Swift County Road 33 (paved). I turned left onto C.R. 18 after 1 mile on C.R. 33, then, after four miles on C.R. 18, I turned right onto 160th Avenue SE, past the farm the Schwartz visited,

Parking

and parked in an approach nearest the HP on the opposite side of the road, at the road crest.

The Trail

The field was plowed. I followed field tracks as much as possible, then headed straight towards the HP.

The Summit

It was a typical field hill. I arrived in 14 minutes.

The Climb Down

I returned the same way. It took an additional 14 minutes to get back to my truck, part of which time was spent looking for my pen. I often lose one on the trail, but this one is still there.

The Route Out

I continued on 160th Avenue, taking back roads to Kerkhoven, the nearest town to the Chippewa County High Point collection.
