Our Steele County, Minnesota Highpointing Page

Unnamed Field Hill: 1350+ feet

Introduction

Steele County's high point is in a field at 43° 59' 30"N, 93° 05' 21"W, in Aurora Township, Section 15. I visited there on November 13, 2004, after completing Rice County, just before sunrise.

Approaches to Steele County's High Point

The Steele County High Point is a couple of miles away from Minnesota State Highway 218 between Owatonna and Blooming Prairie. I approached from the north, but had to take a detour around some construction. The road nearest the HP is SE 68th Street.

Parking

I parked on the side of the road nearest the HP.

The Trail

The field containing the HP was a harvested soybean field.

The Summit

I arrived at the top in 4 minutes, and followed the SE-trending ridge to be sure.

The Climb Down

I returned the same route back to my truck. A horse was nearby. It took 8 minutes.

The Route Out

I drove straight west on SE 68th Street for 0.85 miles,
then southeast on Austin Road (paved) for 3.55 miles,
then right on Steele County Road 4 for 0.7 miles,
then left on S.H. 218 at Bixby.
I followed 218 to S.H. 30 at Blooming Prairie, where it goes east into Dodge County, my next objective.
