Our Redwood County, Minnesota Highpointing Page

1 field area, 1 road upgrade: 1450+ feet

Introduction

Redwood County, like nearby Brown County, sees its highest point where the ground rises to the southwest. It is in Section 31 of Springdale Township. I visited the two areas on November 13-14, 2004, after finishing Cottonwood County.

The Approach to the Redwood County High Points

The nearest town is Tracy. One could easily drive the four miles from there, as Michael Schwartz did. Walnut Grove is east about 8 miles.

I drove from the south, though, from Westbrook, taking paved and gravel roads to the Redwood-Murray-Lyon county tri-point.

Area #1

The northern area is a road crown. The surrounding terrain does not reach 1450', but the built-up road does, barely. I walked on that part about 10 o'clock. It was just a formality since it is not natural ground.

Parking

I then parked in a field approach on the Lyon side of the line, about 1/4 mile north of the tri-point, and slept there until morning.

Area #2

I woke up about 7, just before sunrise. Then I could see the terrain clearly. I walked along the road side on the Redwood side. I agree with Schwartz, that the ground rises toward the east about 1/4 mile to its crest. I claimed that as my 45th Minnesota County HP.

The Route Out

I got onto U.S. Highway 14 at Tracy, and continued west toward the Lyon County High Point
