Our Murray County, Minnesota Highpointing Page

1 point on Buffalo Ridge: 1920+ feet

Introduction

Murray County's High Point is one of the hills on Buffalo Ridge in Section 21 of Chanarambie Township. It is right next to a service road for wind vanes. I visited there during twilight on November 13, 2004, after completing Rock County's High Point

Approaches to Buffalo Ridge

I drove north on Rock County Road 17 (initially paved, then gravel after 2.5 miles) from Edgerton for 3.35 miles, then right (east) on C.R. 2 (gravel) for 2 miles, then north on C.R. 18 (paved) for 5 miles to Minnesota State Highway 30. I drove 4 miles east on S.H. 30 to Murray C.R. 84, and turned right (south) for 1 mile. Then I drove east for 0.7 miles and turned right on a wind vane service road for 0.1 mile.

Parking

I parked under a wind vane, right next to a barbed wire fence about 20 feet from the HP.

The Trail

I crossed through the fence and walked up to the top.

The Summit

It looked to me that this rock was the highest point on the ridge

The Climb Down

This was one of the easiest HP's I've ever done. I was in and out of my truck in 5 minutes. Then I went back to get my camera and flashlight.

The Route Out

It was now almost totally dark. I got back on S.H. 30 going east. At Slayton, where S.H. 30 turned north, I continued southeasteast on U.S. 59 to Fulda, then took S.H. 62 to Windom, on my way to Watonwan County.
