Our Marshall County, Minnesota Highpointing Page

2 unnamed elongated hills: 1235+ feet

Introduction

Marshall County's two high points are located in Sections 1 and 2 of Como Township. I visited them on May 28, 2005 after completing Kittson County. In addition, there is another point, south on the summit ridge, labeled "BM 1235", which I did not visit.

Approaches to the Marshall County High Point Areas

From the Kittson County High Point area, I drove north to Roseau County Road 6, then straight east about 17 miles.
I turned right and went south on ???, which became Marshall C.R. 126 at the county line.
I continued south on C.R. 126 to the southern high point area.

Parking for the Southern Area

I parked on the roadside in the middle of the southern contour. It looks to me to be essentially flat, the only high ground being the road build-up itself. Nevertheless, I did walk on both sides by the woodlines for the length of the contour.

I turned around here, and retraced my route north, past Spot Elevation 1230, and the road curve to the left. I used my GPS to get as close as possible to the northern area.

Parking for the Northern Area

I was hoping to find a trail going east, although I had no reason to suspect one, given Dan Richardson's trip report. I drove slowly as I approached the nearest point, and stopped when I saw a well-kept trail. As wet as the conditions were, I was glad I didn't have to bushwhack through the dense woods.

The Trail

I stayed on this trail, which wound slightly through the woods for about 0.15 mile. It came within 5 feet of the high point, an easy bushwhack.

The Summit

The summit is a typical woods hill, requiring a small amount of walking around. About 10 minutes round trip.

The Route Out

I got back on Roseau C.R. 6 and continued east on my way to Roseau County's High Point.
