Our Grant County, Minnesota Highpointing Page

1 unnamed field hill: 1400+ feet

Introduction

Grant County's high point is in Section 13 of Erdahl Township, within a mile of the Douglas County line. I visited there on November 26, 2004, after completing Stevens County.

Approaches to the Grant County High Point

I took Grant County Road 5 from the Grant-Stevens County line. It's a little tricky staying on C.R. 5 through Hoffman. Watch carefully. I stayed on C.R. 5 for 17.3 miles, and turned right onto Minnesota State Highway 79 for 0.7 miles to a place near the HP.

Parking

I parked at the road crest, but still 20+ vertical feet below the top.

The Trail

The hill was too steep and slippery to scale directly, so I walked east along the road for 100 feet or so til the hill got shorter, then switchbacked up to the top. It was a trivial completion and one of the easiest so far in Minnesota.

The Summit

The summit was covered with weeds and scrub trees, just above the field to the south.

The Climb Down

I returned to my truck the same way.

The Route Out

I continued on S.H. 79, crossing I-94, for 4.65 miles from the Grant County High Point to a left turn onto Douglas C.R. 5, going north at Evansville.
