Our Freeborn County, Minnesota Highpointing Page

1 unnamed field hill: 1400+ feet

Introduction

Freeborn County's highest point is a few hundred feet from the Faribault county line, in Section 18 of Mansfield Township. It is a trip two-fer with Faribault County. I visited there on November 13, 2004, after completing Waseca County.

Approaches to Freeborn County's High Point

From I-90 near Alden, Minnesota, I took exit 146 (County Road 6, paved), and turned left at 0.6 miles, a "T" intersection with C.R. 46. I followed C.R. 6 for 0.5 miles, then turned right onto C.R. 4. I stayed on C.R. 4 for 6 miles, then turned right onto C.R. 11 to the county line road (610th Avenue) at 4 miles. I went left (south) on 610th for 1.35 miles where I parked in an approach near the HP.

The Trail

The field was plowed. I climbed up the hill and back in 7 minutes.

The Route Out

I turned around in the approach and retraced my path north 0.35 miles and turned left onto 50th Street, the Faribault County access road.
