Our Cottonwood County, Minnesota Highpointing Page

2 unnamed field hills: 1570+ feet

Introduction

Cottonwood County's two high point areas are located in Sections 6 and 7 of Dale Township. I visited there on November 13, 2004 after completing Brown County's High Point.

My Approach to Cottonwood County's High Points

From Jeffers, I drove west on Minnesota State Highway 30, for one mile, then south on 430th Avenue for 2.15 miles, where I parked in an approach nearest HP1.

Area #1

I navigated through the plowed field by flashlight and GPS. I walked around the area until I was satisfied that I reached the top, in 7 minutes.

Area #2

I got back in my truck, and continued south on 430th, then east on the next gravel road for about 1/3 mile to a service road going up to an antenna (not on the topo map). I drove a short distance to a point on the road where it gradually turned to wild grass. The distance from the HP1 parking place to here was 1.25 miles. I walked around the area for 3 minutes.

A bench mark is nearby on the opposite side of the road:

The Route Out

I got back onto S.H. 30 westbound to Westbrook. At the west edge of Westbrook, I drove north on C.R. 7 for 7 miles, and turned left (west) on C.R. 11. One mile past the Murray County line, I turned right onto Murray C.R. 45, north for two miles, then left on C.R. 22, and made my way to the Redwood-Lyon-Murray county tri-point, to prepare for Redwood County the next day.
