Our Blue Earth County, Minnesota Highpointing Page

2 unnamed wooded hills: 1190+ feet

Introduction

Blue Earth county has a pair of well-defined woodsy hills that compete for highest point. I visited Blue Earth County's High Points on October 30, 2004, just after finishing Le Sueur County's Highest Point. It was my last completion of the day.

My Approach to the Blue Earth County High Area

From my parking spot near Le Sueur County's highest point, I drove 0.7 miles northwest on Quiet Road, then south along the Blue-Earth/Le Sueur County Line for 0.4 miles to the highest point on the road.

Parking

I parked at the highest point on the road,

The Trail

I walked up the short, steep incline into Blue Earth County. There was a hip-high fence just inside the wooded area, which I stepped over, and made the short walk to the northern high point hill, arriving there in 3 minutes.

The Northern Summit

The northern summit is an ordinary hill. I walked around it until I was satisfied that I summited.

The Walk Between High Points

I walked down toward the saddle between the two high points, and when I came to a chest-high fence, I searched for a way around it, but couldn't find one, so I rolled under it, tearing my coat on a barb. The saddle is a well-mowed area with a gate wide enough to drive vehicles through. From here I could see down to the north where there were buildings. I crossed the saddle and climbed up toward the southern summit.

The Southern Summit

It took 2 minutes to get to the southern summit. It also didn't take long to finish. I could see the buildings a little closer, but was in too much of a hurry to stay.

The Climb Down

I walked back toward the saddle, tearing my coat again on another barb. The total time out of my truck was 7 minutes.

The Route Out

I continued south on the county line road, then west & then south on S.H. 60, then west on U.S. 14. I considered attempting the Nicollet County High Point, but decided to wait for another day. I was eager to get home.
