Our Becker County, Minnesota Highpointing Page

Small Area by Wolf Lake Lookout Tower: 1860+ feet

Introduction

Becker County's High Point is located in Section 16 of Wolf Lake Township. I visited there on November 26, 2004, after completing Wadena County, just before dark.

My Approach to the Becker County High Point

From the intersection of Minnesota State Highway 87 and Becker County Road 45 (which is 3 miles south of Wolf Lake), I drove north on C.R. 45 (paved) for 3 miles. At that point, C.R. 45 ended and C.R. 38 (also paved) turned north. I stayed on C.R. 38 for 4.1 miles, before it turned left, and C.R. 121 (gravel) went straight. I stayed on C.R. 121 for 2 miles as it curved to the east. When it curved north, I went straight on Wolf Lake Tower Road. About half-way up the road, it splits. The left fork is the main road that goes on the north side of the summit. The right fork goes all the way to the top of the hill, 0.95 miles from C.R. 121. The road was snowy, and slightly inclined, but my truck made it with no problem.

Parking

I parked on the summit area, near the bench mark.

The Bench Mark

The bench mark is on the edge of the woods about 20 feet from the maintenance building.

The Summit

On top is a clearing where the road circles around, an antenna tower, and a maintenance building. The highest point is near the turnaround in the woods. I spent 5 minutes at the top, mostly looking for the bench mark.

The Route Out

I got back onto C.R. 121, and went north for 2.3 miles, where it ended at S.H. 34. I turned left (west) and stopped in Detroit Lakes for gas, shortly before its junction with U.S. Highway 10. I stayed on U.S. 10 all the way into Clay County, my next stop.
